Last month we talked about the importance of trust in relationships.

God is completely trustworthy. He demonstrates faithfulness in many ways–but most notably through the gift of Jesus Christ who died for our sin and rose for our justification (Romans 4:25).
None of us is Jesus. None of us is trustworthy in and of ourselves. For this reason, it is both wise and humble not to assume we are completely trustworthy. Trust is not inherent in positions or titles, age or experience, familial or societal ties or relationships.
We know this because:
Jesus… would not entrust himself to them, since he knew them all and because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man. (John 2:24-25)
When the Spirit of God indwells people, however, His presence is evidenced by faithfulness (Galatians 3:24-25). Those who live by the Spirit of God demonstrate trustworthiness in the forms of responsibility, truthfulness, sacrificial care and compassion.
Faithfulness is also evident in consistency. Jesus’ words were consistent with His actions. He was the same in public as He was in private. His words to both disciples and Pharisees were motivated by love and a desire for repentance. His actions to the leper and tax collector were sincere and caring. Jesus, the God-man,
became a priest with an oath made by the one who said to him:
The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
“You are a priest forever.”
Because of this oath, Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant…. he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them. (Hebrews 7:17-19)
God’s holiness and character are opposed to sin, deceit, and variability. We secure trust when we walk in the Spirit, demonstrating integrity regardless of position, title, influence or assumed relationship.
Prayerfully,
