Introducing: The Clarity Team

This month we would like to introduce you to Clarity in Action Ministries’ Board of Directors.

 Sydney Millage, Founder/President

I grew up in the state of Wyoming and have many fond memories of mountains, church camp, and life in the Wild West. At the age of 9 the Lord convicted me that regardless of how clean and dressed up I was on the outside, I wasn’t prepared to worship without the saving power of Jesus Christ. At the age of 14 I began leading Bible studies and have been blessed to love, pray with, and counsel women and children who have suffered, survived, and are living redemptively.

My husband and I have 4 children and that number is growing, which is a great blessing. I graduated from Faith Bible Seminary in Lafayette, IN with a master’s degree in 2018. In 2023, God made a way for Clarity in Action Ministries which cares for and values victims of domestic abuse by providing resources to equip the local church in a Christ-honoring way.

Karen Miller, Vice President

I grew up in the Midwest with my parents serving in college ministry. Halfway through my childhood, we moved to East Asia when my parents became missionaries. Later, I returned to the States and graduated from the University of Iowa. I’ve been married to Scott Miller for 26 years. We have four children, two are still at home with us. We’re members of Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City where we teach a children’s Sunday School class together.

God’s grace entered my life as a youngster, but He brought Light into my darkness when He saved me from suicidal thoughts in my twenties. I have experienced His power to heal and restore a broken heart. I praise Him for His death for me and His tremendous love!

Having a desire to support others, I became a lawyer and witnessed the devastating reality of domestic violence in family matters. Yet, I sincerely believe “…there is no one like [the LORD] to help the powerless against the mighty.” 2 Chron. 14:11 (NIV). Sydney is a women’s leader at our home church and I was thrilled to help with this important ministry when asked to pray and serve on CIAM’s board.

Jess Cox, Secretary

Hello! I live in Oskaloosa, IA, with my husband Dave and our children Deacon, Drake, and Jubilee. I am a registered nurse and work with a family practice and obstetrics physician. My family and I attend Bethel Baptist Church, where my husband and I teach the teens in Sunday school and youth group. I have a heart for helping hurting women and children and have had the privilege of counseling them for over a decade through Sunday school, youth group, camp, and individual Bible studies. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Clarity in Action Ministries to continue the work of equipping individuals and churches to help those in need.

Jamie Julius, Treasurer

I live in Waterloo, IA. I love Jesus, am a single mom to three teenage and pre-teen children, and I am an advocate for victims of domestic abuse. I enjoy all things outdoors in my free time, as well as cooking, reading and taking care of our zoo of animals. I am a survivor of domestic abuse and it is an honor to help others be set free from oppressive relationships and begin their own healing journey.

Floyd Yutzy, Director/Presenter

I have been married to Elaine for 28 years. We have four children, the three oldest are married, and we have one grandchild. Some personal hobbies include fishing in all of its forms, woodworking, and almost anything that can be done outdoors. I have served in pastoral ministry for 23 years and I am currently the lead pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Kalona, IA.

We planted Cornerstone Church in 2016 and it has become one of the greatest joys of my life! I have a passion for helping people experience more freedom in their lives through the study of God’s Word, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the application of the Gospel to everyday living. I’m excited about the opportunity to continue helping people find new freedom in Christ through my involvement with Clarity In Action.

Mike Gittins, Past Director/Presenter

I am currently the lead pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Chatfield, Minnesota, where I live with my wife, Julie, and our three children. I grew up in Perry, IA, northwest of Des Moines, and am still an “Iowa boy” through and through. As a five year old, I trusted Christ as my Rescuer and Leader. I did undergraduate work in Pastoral Studies at Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) and my graduate work in Theology and Divinity at Faith Baptist Theological Seminary (Ankeny, IA). After a particularly difficult abuse situation in our church, I got involved with Clarity in Action Ministries as a way to help other pastors and churches navigate the complexities and challenges of abuse. I love coffee, shooting, wood fires, flannels, fall, traveling, reading, and woodworking.
